       Title: Harvest Apple Bread *

     1/2 c  Butter or margarine
     1/2 c  Sugar
     1/2 c  Brown sugar; packed
       1 ts Vanilla
       2    Eggs
       2 c  Flour
       1 ts Baking soda
     1/2 ts Salt
       3 c  Apples; finely chopped
            - peeled *
 
 ------------------------------ALMOND STREUSEL------------------------------
       2 tb Butter or margarine
       3 tb Brown sugar
       2 ts Cinnamon
     1/3 c  Almonds; finely chopped
            Sliced almonds for garnish
  
   Cream the butter and sugars until light. Beat in vanilla and eggs. Combine
   the flour, baking soda and salt. Stir into butter mixture. Batter will be
   very thick. Stir in chopped apples, combining all ingredients well. Pour
   into greased 4x12 loaf pan. Combine the streusel ingredients in a
   saucepan. Stir over low heat until the mixture begins to bubble. Spread
   over batter. Bake at 375~ for 10 minutes. Lower heat to 350~. Bake an
   additional 30-35 minutes. Test with a toothpick. Remove pan to rack to cool
   for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Continue to cool on rack. Sprinkle with
   sliced almonds.
   
   * Peel and chop apples immediately before adding to batter to prevent
   browning.
