1 cup cornmeal
 1 cup flour
 1 medium onion minced
 2 teaspoons baking powder
 1 teaspoon salt
 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (less if you prefer)
 1 egg beaten
 3/4 cup buttermilk
 3 cups vegetable oil
 Mix dry ingredients and onion together.  Mix in the egg and buttermilk.  
 This will be a rather thick mixture.  Let sit for 1/2 hour.  Heat oil in 
 a deep fryer or wok to 375o.  Drop by teaspoons into deep fat.  Fry 
 until golden brown.  Drain on paper towels.  Serve immediately.
 You can add little minced vegetables to it.  I like to add 
 jalapeno peppers to mine.
