                     Gingered Persimmon and Pear Crisp

    4      medium        persimmons -- peeled and sliced
    1      large         Asian pears -- peeled and sliced
      1/2  cup           tangerine juice
    2      tablespoons   sugar
      1/2  teaspoon      salt
      1/2  teaspoon      fresh ginger root -- grated

    4      tablespoons   unsalted butter
    2      tablespoons   brown sugar, packed
      1/2  teaspoon      tangerine peel -- grated
      1/8  teaspoon      salt
    2      tablespoons   flour
      1/4  teaspoon      ground cardamom
      1/2  cup           rolled oats
 
 Preheat oven to 375F.  Combine fruit, juice, salt and ginger in an
 8-inch square bakingpan.  In a separate bowl combine topping ingredients.
 Sprinkle topping over fruit and bake for 40 minutes.
