      1/3  cup           shortening
    1      cup           sugar
    2                    eggs
    1      teaspoon      soluble fluid rose
    2      cups          flour
      1/4  teaspoon      salt
    1                    egg white
                         pink decorators' sugar
 
 Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and fluid rose until fluffy. Blend flour and salt
 ; stir into creamed mixture. Dough will be soft; chill several hours or overnig
 ht. Heat oven to 350. Roll a third of dough at a time on lightly floured board 
 to 1/8 thickness. Cut 4 to 5: circles; then cut each circle into several quart
 er moon shapes. Cut slits on outside edge of each piece and bend it into feathe
 r shape, pinching one end to form quill. Brush with beaten egg white; sprinkle 
 generously with pink decorators' sugar. Bake 8 to 10 min..
 
 NOTE: Be sure to use soluble fluid rose (available at drug store) for flavoring
 , as rose water is NOT strong enough for flavor.
