                      Peppermint Refrigerator Dessert

      1/2  lb            peppermint stick candy -- crushed
      1/2  cup           light cream
      1/2  tablespoon    unflavored gelatin
    1      tablespoon    cold water
    1 1/2  cups          heavy cream -- whipped
   20                    chocolate wafers
 
 Combine candy and cream in top of double boiler, heat over simmering 
 water until candy is dissolved. Soften gelatin in cold water and stir 
 into hot mixture, stir until gelatin is completely dissolved. Chill 
 mixture until slightly thickened. Fold in whipped cream. Break wafers 
 into halves and stand them against sides and in bottom of a 9x9 in 
 pan. Spread with 1/2 of gelatin mixture, then cover with a layer of 
 wafers and remaining mixture. Top with wafers and chill at least 12 
 hours.
