                       Okra, Corn and Tomato  Melange

   Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method

    4      strips        bacon -- fried crisp
    4      tablespoons   bacon drippings -- drained
    1                    onion -- chopped fine
    3      cups          okra -- cut up
    4                    tomatoes -- peeled and diced
    2      ears          corn -- scraped
      1/2                green bell pepper -- chopped
    1      teaspoon      sugar
                         salt and pepper -- to taste
           dash          Tabasco sauce
 
 Stir onion and okra in bacon drippings, add corn kernels, and cook for 10
 minutes, stirring constantly.  Add tomatoes, green pepper and seasonings.
 Cover and simmer until done (about 25 minutes) stirring occasionally.
 Correct seasoning, pour into serving dish and sprinkle with crumbled bacon.

 NOTES : This is a wonderful summertime recipe when you can get all
 ingredients fresh (either homegrown or from a neighborhood vegetable stand.
 )   We have a good one not too far from our house.  It’s not open long, but
 for a while in the summer, the fresh produce is great!
