                    Green Beans with Tomatoes and Honey

    1      lb            green beans, trimmed -- cut crosswise in 1/2
    2      tbsp          olive oil
      1/2  c             finely chopped onion
    2      cloves        garlic -- finely chopped
      1/2  tsp           ground cinnamon
      1/2  tsp           ground cumin
      1/2  tsp           ground black pepper
           pinch         cayenne
    1      16oz can      plum tomatoes, drained -- coarsely chopped
    1      tsp           salt
    3      tsp           honey
    1      tbsp          fresh lemon juice
 
 Place bean in vegetable steamer with water.  Steam until beans turn very
 bright green but are still crunchy, about 5 minutes.  Rinse in steamer
 basket under cold running water; drain.
 
 Heat oil in wide shallow saucepan.  Add onion and garlic; saute until
 softened, for about 5 minutes.  Add cinnamon, cumin, black pepper and
 cayenne; saute for 1 minute.  Add tomatoes and 1/2 tsp salt.  Bring to
 boiling, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, 8-10 minutes, until
 thick jam-like consistency.
 
 Stir in honey and lemon juice.  Add beans.  Cover; lower heat; cook at
 low simmer, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender, about 15
 minutes.  Season with remaining salt if necessary.
