     3/4 c  water
     1/2 c  red wine vinegar
       2 t  brown sugar
     1/8 t  pepper
       4 ea sweet onion
       1 t  salt
 
 combine water, vinegar, sugar, and pepper
 pour into a 9x13x2 glass baking dish
 cut onions in half, lengthwise
 place in baking dish, cut side down
 roast @ 400 degrees, on top rack of oven, for 60-75 minutes arrange, cut
 side up, onto a serving
 platter
 season to taste with salt
 serve hot
