                             Grilled Red Onions

    4      medium        red onions
    2      tablespoons   Worcestershire sauce
    2      tablespoons   balsamic vinegar -- or red wine vinegar
    2      tablespoons   soy sauce
      3/4  teaspoon      pepper
    2      tablespoons   olive oil
 
 Cut 1/4-inch off the top and bottom of each onion and discard.  Cut the
 onions in half cross-wise.  Arrange onions in a single layer in a shallow
 dish.
 
 Whisk the remaining ingredients together, then pour over the onions.  Allow
 the onions to marinate for one to two hours, turning the onions about
 half-way through.
 
 Grill the onions beneath a broiler on high or over an outdoor barbeque for
 approximately 10 minutes, turning the onions after 5 minutes.  Check to be
 sure the onions are cooked to your taste before serving.
