                   Sweet Balsamic and Red Onion Marinade

    2      Tablespoons   finely chopped red onion
    1      teaspoon      sugar
      1/2  teaspoon      dry mustard
      1/4  teaspoon      salt
      1/8  teaspoon      pepper
    3      Tablespoons   balsamic vinegar
    2      Tablespoons   water
    1      Tablespoon    vegetable or walnut oil
 
 1.  In small bowl, combine all ingredients.  With wire whisk, beat until
 smooth and sugar is dissolved.
 
 2.  Pour mixture over slightly steamed and cooled asparagus spears, or sliced
 fresh tomatoes or cucumbers.  Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes to
 marinate before serving.
