    2      pounds        beef stew meat
      1/2  cup           all-purpose flour
    3      tablespoons   shortening
    1      medium        onion -- chopped
    4                    carrots -- sliced
    1      clove         garlic -- minced
    2                    bay leaves
    1      teaspoon      salt
    1      teaspoon      sugar
      1/2  teaspoon      black pepper
      1/2  teaspoon      paprika
      1/8  teaspoon      ground cloves
    1      teaspoon      lemon juice
    1      teaspoon      Worcestershire sauce
    4      cups          water
 
 Dredge meat in flour, melt shortening in skillet.  Add beef cubes to skillet an
 d saute until evenly browned.  Transfer to Crock-Pot.  Add onion, carrots, cele
 ry, garlic, and other seasonings.  Pour in water and stir.  Cover and cook on L
 ow 10 to 12 hours or on High 5 to 6 hours.  Serve.
