NOTES : “We have the best pie baker in the entire state,” proclaims
Anthony Satariano, owner of Clifton Mill Restaurant. That would be
Belle Bennington, 81, who whips up such Mill specialties as maple
oatmeal and chocolate pecan, as well as a variety of seasonal pies. For
the crust, she uses flour ground in the 1802 water-powered gristmill --
one of th world’s largest. (You can view the mill from the restaurant
and get a tour when the mill is in action.) Breakfast is served at the
Mil all day, so top off a platter of Belle’s homemade mush with a $2.89
slice of pie. Gushes Satarioan’s daughter, Andrea Hays, “The sugar
cream is to die for.” -Clifton Mill, 75 Water St., Clifton,
