---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05 Title: Meringue-Topped Apples (Apfel Mit Meringue) Categories: Fruits, Pies Yield: 1 Servings 4 Tart cooking apples; pared Cut into thin slices 3 tb Margarine; melted 1/4 c Sugar 2 tb Sugar 1/4 c Raisins or currants 1 tb Calvados or applejack 3 Egg whites 1/4 ts Cream of tartar Arrange apples in greased 8x8x2-inch baking dish. Pour margarine over apples. Sprinkle with 2 tb sugar, raisins and Calvados. Cover and cook at 350 deg. until apples are tender, about 30 minutes. Beat together egg whites and cream of tartar on medium speed until foamy. Beat in 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tb at a time. Continue beating on high speed until stiff and glossy. Spread over apples.
