* Exported from MasterCook * Whole Wheat Turnovers ( september 1992) Recipe By : Miriam Podcameni Posvolsky Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Salgadinhos Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 1/4 cup canola oil salt a little water to link Hearts of Palm Filling 2 tablespoons oil 2 tablespoons flour 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion 1/2 cup milk 1 teaspoon chopped parsley pinch nutmeg salt and freshly ground white pepper -- to taste 1 cup hearts of palms -- chopped Cheese Filling 1 cup firm ricotta or farmers cheese 1/4 cup chopped spring onions 1 egg salt and white pepper -- to taste Dough: 1. Place flour in a bowl. 2. Make a well in the center and add oil, salt and a little warm water. 3. Stir with a fork and then with hands. You should have a firm , not too soft, dough. 4. Knead 5 minutes adding more flour if needed. Let rest covered and basted with oil , 30 minutes. 5. Roll out dough very thin on a working surface dusted with whole wheat flour. 6. Cut out 4″ rounds. Place 2 t filling in the center, baste edges with water, fold in 2 over filling and press edges together with a fork to stick. 7. Place turnovers on a lightly oiled cookie sheet. 8. Bake in a pre heated 350 oven for 25 to 30 minutes Heart of Palms Filling: 1. Cook onion in oil 2. Stir in flour and cook 2 minutes 3. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. 4. Add milk and stir over low heat until thick. 5. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in chopped hearts of palms and parsley. Let cool. before using Cheese Filling: Stir together all the ingredients. you can make mushroom filling, chicken and so on. If you want any more fillings, just let me know - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOTES : I kind of eyeballed this dough, but it came out delicious.
