                            Escalloped Tomatoes

    3      C.            freshly cooked or canned tomatoes
      1/2                green pepper
      1/2  Tsp.          salt
      1/4  Tsp.          pepper
    1      Tsp.          sugar
    1 1/2  Tsp.          grated onion
    2      C.            bread crumbs
    3      Tbsp.         butter
 
 Add shredded green pepper, salt, pepper, sugar and
 grated onion to the tomatoes. Put a layer of bread crumbs in
 the bottom of a greased baking dish. Add half the tomatoes,
 some bits of butter, more crumbs and the remaining tomatoes.
 Sprinkle top thickly with crumbs and dot with butter. Bake
 uncovered at 400 degrees until tomatoes are heated through and crumbs
 are brown.
