                                  SANGRIA

    1                    lemon -- 1/4 slices
    1                    orange -- 1/4 slices
      1/2  cup           water
      1/2  cup           sugar
    1      bottle        red wine (750 ml) -- chilled
    2      cans          carbonated water or Sprite -- chilled
    2      tablespoons   brandy
                         ice cubes
 
 Cut lemon and oranges into 1/4 slices.  Place the 4 end slices from the
 lemon and orange in a saucepan; set aside remaining slices.  For syrup, add
 sugar and water to the saucepan.  Bring to boiling, stirring until sugar
 dissolves.
 Remove from heat; cool.  Squeeze juice from cooked fruit into the syrup.
  Discard cooked fruit.
 In pitcher combine remaining fruit slices, syrup, wine, carbonated water (or
 Sprite) and brandy.  Serve over ice.

 NOTES : We did not put the wine mixture with the carbonated water (Sprite) in
 the pitcher.  We mixed it in the glasses. 1/2 wine mixture, 1/2 Sprite.
